Boat Name: Ocean Trek, a catamaran style vessel that measures 18 meters in length, powered by two 6-71 Detroit diesel engines giving a top speed of 10 knots. Boat Skipper: Mick Saliwon Ocean Trek crew: Mick Saliwon (skipper), Lyn (dive director), Warren (diving coordinator), Bob (cook) and Shaun (deck boy). Cheryl and I were joined on Ocean Trek by: Lester, Joshua, Dave, Karren, Dave, Ken, Sarah, Judy, Andrew, Amiee, Matt, Chris, Geoff, Linda, Michael, Emma, Ian, Sylvia, Corinna and Paul. We'd booked for the Ocean Trek liveaboard post Christmas 4 day outing some weeks before, getting the last spots (http://www.oceantrek.com.au). On the Monday night we drove from Bowral to Huskisson and stayed at a local motel for the night. We checked out the local shops, plus the parking and then had dinner at the RSL. We had breakfast at a local cafe in the morning and then unloaded our gear at about 8 a.m. at the wharf. At just after 9 a.m. Mick arrived in Ocean Trek's tender to start ferrying the dive gear, luggage and people out to the boat. Once on board we headed out to the dive site just inside Jervis Bay at Bowen Island. It was a quite delightful dive and a great introduction to the area. |
