| Instructor: Mark Ryan, Aquability Boat Name: Dive Victoria, Portsea First dive of my TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver and TDI Decompression Procedures Diver courses with Mark Ryan as the instructor. Brendan was along to be my dive buddy and practice skills. We'd made considerable changes to my gear configuration prior to this dive. Hoses rerouted and lenths changed. Octopus now on a necklace around my neck. We'd setup the stage cylinder differently and this was going to be my first time in the water with this stage cylinder. I was also using a new Buddy Pocket Reel for the first time. The dive was supposed to be on Nepean Wall. But on arring at the site, Bob made the call that Lonsdale Wall would be much better given the conditions. The three of us went into the water together. Proceeded down the wall to our planned maximum depth and Mark started to put us through some drills. Learnings: Couldn't reach the valve knobs for shutdowns. Stage cylinder was negatively buoyant and didn't sit well. Needed to make significant changes to my gear setup. The Buddy Pocket Reel wasn't going to suit me for these dives. Should try a finger spool reel. Split fins cause you to move around a lot more than the others. Needed to learn some skills a lot better. |
