| Boat Captain: Kevin Delonge Boat Name: MV Mazurka, Ocean Blue Adventures, Tutukaka Marina Safety Diver: Jef Had the opportunity to do a two day liveaboard trip diving the Poor Knights Islands out of Tutukaka in New Zealand. Flew into Auckland and hired a car to drive up to Tutukaka. Stayed in the hotel near the marina that night and made my way down to the boat the next morning. The MV Mazurka is owned and skippered by Kevin Delonge with Jej as crew, vegitarian chef and dive leader. The boat can accommodate six divers, but there were going to be just five of us. An Irish couple on an extended holiday around New Zealand, a local guy who was a dive master and his friend, an Australian girl who had just qualified as an Open Water Diver. As we made our way out of the harbour and across to the Poor Knights Islands, I proceeded to setup my dive gear. I'd arranged to have two 12 litre Faber cylinders. I was using the OMS dual cylinder travel band system for the first time. It took me a while to figure out how to set it up properly. It meant I was diving with independent twin cylinders. Magic Wall: This is a checkout dive site with a bottom of 19 metres. We all geared up and followed Jef. I was quite surprised at how similar the terrain was to the sites off Cape Schanck I'd dived in Victoria just a few days earlier. We came back to the boat and had lunch. |
