| The Magic Wall (aka Ngaio Rock) dive site is located in the Southern Bay of Aorangi Island within the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve, approximately 23 kilometers off the Tutukaka Coast of New Zealand. A shallow 5 metre kelp covered bay filled with juvenile wrasse, demoiselles, scorpionfish and the occasional winter seal. Follow the wall clockwise along and around the point to admire the intensely covered wall- mosaic morays, gorgonian fans, Diadema urchins and so many big nudibranchs there is always something to see. The bottom of the wall (18-20m) is mostly sand and is a good spot to find Stingrays and Eagle Rays. Magic Wall rises from the sand in 30 metres up to 5 metres. Stingrays and Porae sit in the sand, Nudibranchs and Bryzoans cover the wall. Follow the ridge over some small bay like areas and end up at Ngaio Rock. The rock is covered in cracks and holes and on the seaward side huge Snapper hover in the shallows looking out into the blue. Max Depth 40m Location: GPS marks from the PADI website. |
