| Boat: "Oceanic Explorer", Dive Victoria, Portsea No-one to dive with so decided to phone up Dive Victoria, book in for dives at Portsea Hole and the J4 Submarine, and see who I'd be buddied up with. A quick trip down to Portsea to make the boat. In the end we were delayed getting out, plus had to wait quite a while for slack water. The boat was really full, with a large group form Aquatic Adventures on board. Another Dive Victoria boat, just as full, had Matt Reeves with course students from Dive Perfect, plus Shane Whiteside doing a dive with Bob. I was buddied up with Peter and we were the second pair in, and the first pair on our shot line. We headed down the shot line and out onto the wall. We headed off to the left. When I was at about 140 bar, Peter signed to me. I took it as he was at 100 bar, so I signalled to turn around and we headed back towards the shot line. When back at the shot line I signed to start the ascent, but Peter declined. Checking his gauge, he still had 120 bar, same as me. So we headed off down the right side of the wall. As always, there were plenty of interesting fish about. Eventually we turned around and made our way back towards the shot line and started our ascent. We ended up quite a distance away from the boat, so we had to wait a while while they picked up others and then came to get us. The boat also ended up picking up Shane and Bob. Back into Portsea, I proceeded to change cylinders, grab something to eat and wait for the second dive. |
