| Instructor: Andy Lowther Boat: "Midnight Rambler", Tom Wende, OzDive & Boat Charters Second dive of the SDI Deep Diver course. Dive plan: 16 minutes of bottom time. Rule of thirds: 80, 160, 240 bar. Conditions were a lot calmer than on our first dive earlier in the day. Once the dive site was located, those of us on the SDI Deep Diver course went in first: Andy Lowther (Instructor), Davel Kelly, Matt Kelly, Karen and myself. Andy was the one who knew how to find The Cave, so everyone else on the boat was following us. We did our safety check at 5 metres and then headed to the bottom. Visibility was bad at about 2 metres. Once we had gathered on the bottom we did a mask off, mask on, mask clear drill again. Then Andy let us all to the cave. It was obviously a very interesting site, but the bad visibility meant if was difficult to see anything. As we arrived at the entrance to the cave, I'd reached my 160 bar turn around point. Holding hands with Karen we entered into the cave and through it to the exit. I managed to find the ceiling of the cave with my head a few times! Once we had all exited the cave we started our ascent. Andy dropped his reel and shot his SMB at 15 metres. We did a safety stop at 5 metres and then surfaced. With everyone back aboard we headed back to Portsea and a defriefing at the Portsea Hotel. Then Dave Keely, Matt Kelly and myself went and had icecreams, before heading back to The Scuba Doctor in Rye for air fills and to swap yarns. |
