Boat: "Miles Ahead", John Lawler's 6.5m 175HP, Sorrento

By the time we got back into the bay, the southery had certainly set in. We decided to do a drift dive off of Point Lonsdale. I figure we were in the general area of Catch Bag Reef Drift and Boarfish Reef.

Again, Tom and James went in first with John and I going in on a second line about 10 minutes later.

There was a nice current to propell us along quite quickly. We obviously weren't over the actual reef area with the bombies, but the bottom was quite interesting none the less.

We started to see some very large abalone. John showed me that they were "green lipped".

About two thirds of the way into the dive we suddenly stopped dead in the water. No current. We both looked at each other very puzzled. We hadn't gone into the lee of some bottom structure. The bottom was fairly flat all around us. Most strange.

A minute or so later the current started up again and off we went.

Eventually John signalled to surface and we started our ascent. The wind was certainly a bit stronger up on top.

Once we were back on board, we headed into Queenscliff to drop Tom and James off. Then John, Alan and I headed back to Sorrento. Mick Jeacle and the others arrived back at Sorrento shortly after us.

Yet another day of fantastic diving in great company. While Melbourne sweltered in 42 degree heat, we were out on and under the water enjoying ourselves.
