It was recommended by the Pro Dive staff at the Cairns shop that I should take a wetsuit on board even though I felt my Northern Diver Thermalskin would be adequate protection and suffcient in the warm water. It turned out the water temperature of 24 degrees was such that the Thermalskin was all I needed.

Being able to drop down from 16 kg to just 9 kg of lead made getting geared up so much easier and confortable.

I took my reel and SMB on this dive, though quickly realised that I didn't really need the reel, so left it behind on subsequent dives.

Mick and I headed off in a slightly different direction to the others. The different varieties of fish and coral were simply amazing. Mick used my camera to take the photos and I became our spotter.

As can be seen in the photos, one of my fin straps came loose and I didn't notice until I was back at the boat. This has been a recurring problem. I now think I've finally figured it out. I believe it's because I've not been making sure my boot is fully inserted into the fin.

I almost sat on a stingray when I went to settle on the bottom and adjust some gear. Mick got a picture of it swimming away.

Most of the fish were in the shollower depths, so there was no real need to spend time and air in the deeper parts of the dive.

We saw a reef shark. I ran low on air and shared air with Mick. We both had 10 litre cylinders. On subsequent dives I switched to a 12 litre cylinder and then was able to be at about the same remaining pressure whenever we regularly checked.
