Divemaster: Alan Storen, VSAG
Boat: "Miles Ahead", John Lawler's 6.5m 175HP, Sorrento

Nine intrepid VSAGers gathered at Sorrento early in the hope that we would be able to do a slack water dive on Lonsdale Wall.

It started out with the wind pushing 25-35 knots from the north which made life very uncomfortable, so it wasn't very promising.

We sent Mick Jeacle's boat outside the heads to see if conditions were any better in the open ocean and Mick reported back that a dive on the Coogee was feasible.

Although a short sharp chop made gearing up challenging we soon had 7 divers down and viz was at least 12 meters. The fish life (as usual) was excellent. I was diving with John Lawler, who spotted a weedy seadragon on the wreck.

After retrieving the last diver we came back inside the heads and sheltered out of the breeze at Cottage By the Sea and planned a drift dive off Queenscliff to finish off the day.

A clip on my mask broke as I was gearing up, so I ended up sitting out the second dive off Shortlands Bluff.

Those that did the dive were pleasantly surprised that the viz for the drift was equal to the earlier dive even though it was now approaching low tide. The 2 different spots the boats picked were very impressive and all divers on the day were stoked by the quality of the dives.

Most of us then went to degass at the Sorrento Hotel. Then John Layler, Benita and I headed of to The Scuba Doctor for air fills.

Benita and I left our two 12.2 litre Faber steel cylinders with Peter for their annual hydro test.
