Divemaster: Mick Kakafikas, VSAG
Boat: "SS Jeacle", Mick Jeacle's Hayes Hunter, Flinders

18 divers and 4 boats arrived at the Flinders launching area at arounf 9 a.m. Brilliant!

I was allocated to Mick Jeacle's boat, along with Benita McDonough, and Robert Birtles.

Despite the Northerly winds the swells were up. We headed round the Gunnery Reef and then South towards Cape Schanck...seems the sea spray coming into my boat sent some of us into deco!!

Barry Truscott took the lead to a reef area which has been productive in the past but the conditions for diving there were not safe.

We pushed onto to the Cape noting the conditions in Bushrangers Bay on the way.

Turning west past the rocky bluff some were not confident about the conditions, however Mick Jeacle and Barry advised the area was diveable so we all joined up for a dive.

However, we sat this dive out. The boats headed back towards Flinders and arrived at Gunnery Reef, where the conditions were much cakmer..

Mick Jeacle was having a challenging time with the huge rollers on the reef, and demonstrated his exceptional boat handling skills just managing to get over one biggie and so avoid being turned over backward. I clung on to the boat, as Bentita and Robert Birtles were tipped out of the back of the boat. They were only part way through getting ready for their dive, and Robert lost his dive belt overboard, which he then retrieved.

Later, I dived with Mick Jeacle. Then all boats headed back to Fliders and were loaded onto trailers and retrieved without too much hassle.
