Boat Captain: Kevin Delonge
Boat Name: MV Mazurka, Ocean Blue Adventures, Tutukaka Marina

As I headed towards the stern of the boat to get ready to dive, Kevin came over to me and suggested that I solo dive. He pointed out that I seemed to know what I was doing, I had plenty of gas, plus plenty of redundancy with my dive kit. Thus he was happy for me to dive solo.

He pointed out that the dive was to go into the archway and then through the archway and around the outside. But he said I might also like to explore along the wall before the archway.

I geared up and was into the water first and headed over to the archway. I was greeted by the sight of the area along either side of the archway being covered from top to bottom and up to five metres out into the middle by Blue Maomao fish. I was enjoying the spectacle as the others joined me.

I then followed them as they made their way through the arch and along the wall and rocks outside. We looped around back into the archway, and then they all headed back to the boat. I still had plent of air left so I decided to stick around.

The Blue Maomao fish were simply being moved back and forth in the slight swell. I decided to see what would happen if I joined them.

Of course the ones near me scattered, but I maintained my position. Gradually they accepted me and closed in around me. After 20 minutes I was completely surrounded by the fish. So I spent the next 20 or so minutes being a Blue Maomao fish. It was a memorable moment.

Eventually I broke off for this and once again made my way through the archway and explored the rocks and wall outside. I made my way back into the archway and then decided to head back to the boat.

When I got back Kevin said, "We wondered if you were ever going to come back," It was then that I realised I'd been in the water for 112 minutes. I pointed out that I still had plenty of air left. I should have stayed in for longer and made it past two hours.
