Finally got it. Amazingly simple. But took me 5 minutes last night, left the game on my computer, went to bed with, made love, slept and got the answer as soon as I woke up.

Well, I'm one of those that had to sleep on it. Solved it within 5 minutes of waking up the next day (but after spending almost 2 hours on it the night before).

Got pointed at the Bill Gates story before I tried the actual java version and had it worked out by the first few example rolls... amazed some friends who are still totally confused (and frustrated as hell) after several days -- if the "takes smarter people longer" statement tends to be true... guess I'm the dumb one! Heh! roll eyes (sarcastic)

Awesome puzzle.

Uggg.... Very frustrating.

Very satisfying getting the answer, though.

Interesting puzzle as it takes creative thinking when numbers are involved, which isn't normal...

Very nice puzzle.
It really shows how different people look at their problems differently.

I started keeping statistics but couldn't work it out for almost an hour.
Then, I thought of the name again and noticed that it was always even number!!
And it hit me. cool

I usually give up on these sorts of things very quickly. It was perhaps lucky then that I got it in about 10 minutes. I felt that the gates story put an emphasis on the hint that was most useful.
Good puzzle.
Now I'm going to google to see if there is any deviants out there giving it away.
