| Divemaster: Alan Storen, VSAG Boat: Peter Briggs' boat, Sorrento I met up with Alan Storen, plus two of the guest divers on John's boat, Ken and Takia, at The Scuba Doctor when I dropped in to see Peter Fear and return the Nitrox cylinder on my way down to Sorrento. Once at the Sorrento Boat Ramp, Peter Briggs, Alan Storen and myself were teamed up in Peter's boat. We geared up, launched and set out for the dive site accompanied by John Lawler and company in the other John's boat. We were tring to find a cave site on one of the walls. However there was some confusion over the GPS marks, so we ended up locating the Lonsdale Wall and doing a dive in the slack water there. Peter and I buddied up and went in with Alan staying on board to handle the boat. My second visit to Lonsdale Wall was again simply magnificent. The visibility was so good, Alan reported he could see us at depth from the surface. As well as the heaps of interesting fish and macro marine life, we also spotted a huge cray. We went down the shot line to the top of the wall and then down onto the wall itself. We headed South, mostly just looking along the first ledge, not bothering to go any deeper. When Peter was down to 100 bar, we turned around and headed back. Once we found the shot line we started our ascent, doing a 1 minute safety stop at half max depth, followed by two minutes at 5 metres. I'm really looking forward to getting to dive the Lonsdale Wall a lot more. Back on board the boat, it was decided to head around to the Barwon Coast where Alan Beckhurst and company from the Getunder Club were diving. When we arrived, they had divers in the water, so we had lunch while we waited. The forecast weather for the day was 38 degrees C, and the Northerly wind coming off of the land was quite hot. We were delighted to be out on the water where conditions were somewhat cooler. |
