Divemaster: Mick Kakafikas, VSAG
Boat: "Miles Ahead", John Lawler's 6.5m 175HP, Sorrento

We headed down to Rye stopping by at The Scuba Doctor to pick up Benita's regs and top up cylinders. On arrival at Sorreto, Benita and I were assigned to John Lawler's boat, together with Mick Kakafikas and Peter Briggs, and we loaded our gear. Alan Storen was in Peter Brigg's boat. I had on my new Performance Diver Multi Purpose Boots for the first time.

We headed out from Sorrento to Awesome Reef and on arrival John, Peter, Benita and I kitted up while waiting for slack water. We entered the water just as an incoming ship passed clear of us. At first all we could hear was the load noise of the ship.

John had the bouy line as we headed down onto the reef. The visibility wasn't brilliant, but as always, Awesome Reeef lived up to its name.

As we moved around the reef I again came across the anchor I found on my first dive on the reef. This time I was able to make the others aware of it and Benita took some pictures. Peter Fear reports spotting an anchor in this vicinity more than 20 years ago, but had never came across it again.

Just as we were thinking about ascending, a seal came and joined us. Benita and I were entertained by the seal as we did our ascent and safety stops.

With everyone back on board the boat from our dive, Mick and Alan went in for their dive.

After the dive we drifted around and had lunch before deciding what to do for our afternoon dive.
