I study maths and physics at A level. (post 16 education) It took me a ridiculous amount of time to work this out. I wish I'd known the answer had nothing to do with maths.

We were assigned to do this as an assignment in our C++ lab. It was pretty cool, some people got it right away, others it took while. I got it after about 10 minutes of messing with it off and on. It took our professor a week. Awesome little brain teaser!

It took me about 15 minutes to work it out. I think it's true that clever people will have a harder time with it.

Was introduced to this on Monday evening by a friend, using real dice. Two present 'Got It' in a couple of minutes whereas the other two of us (including me) still failed after quarter of an hour. I was reassured that clever people have greater difficulty in solving the problem!! Nice really - you get to feel smug if you get it, and smug for a different reason if you don't... everyone wins
Still, I was enjoying the novelty of the challenge so much the news there was an online Petals Around The Rose proved irresistable - found this site that night and spent a further two hours trying to fathom it out, to no avail. Tried again this evening (Tues) and, after a cumulative total since I first started of about 150 rolls and heaven knows how many differing theories and equations, light just dawned blissfully at seven minutes to one on Wednesday morning, and I'd reeled off 37 straight correct answers by one o'clock...
I am therefore become a Potentate of the Rose, and realise there may now be nothing left to live for. What on Earth happens next?!?
