Ah, cross-brain puzzles that make you glad that you have studied engineering and computer science; Hilbert spaces make this problem trivial! I should take this around different faculties at the uni and see how much faster artsies solve it.

After trying in vain to discover some mathematical formula I reread the introduction, and noticed "The name of the game is important.". After staring a bit at a 5 I got it

I got this fairly quickly. Just from the intro paragraph I presumed it was going to be a problem where you have to notice something other than just the numbers on the die. First I assumed colour, but then I thought about the name of the game. I had it in < 5 rolls.

I read the article, and saw it after the 5th or 6th roll.
However, if I had just guessed zero each time, I'd have won the first 5 or 6 times 8-) 8-)
