I, too, learned the Rose Petal Game...at a North American Simulation and Gaming Association annual meeting that was held a U Michigan in the 1980s... but you left out that there is a Petal's Revenge game with its own hidden rule...and that is was foisted on a Rose Petal Game provider to get revenge. This game rule took me much longer, but I finally got it 3 days later. The clue: "It's not there, and the answer is hidden from you."

I can't believe how hard I made it! Too much calculating and reading into the problem at hand. Once I quit "thinking", it became clear. A good 2 hours wasted and spent in frustration!
