I went through several dozen guesses before I realized that my 4-year old was making better guesses than me, and then the answer came pretty quickly....

I solved it numerically, but didn't understand the meaning of the name until I googled around a bit. Nice puzzle.

Didn't solve it yesterday - tried the usual math algorithms - then woke up thinking the name might mean something. Solved in 2 minutes.

was ready for a forehead-slapping revelation, but turned out my first instinct was correct and there was never a counter-example, so my solution time was perhaps 5 seconds, tho it took a minute or two to confirm that... I have had other simple problems stump me for quite a while, just not this one...

Thanks to our local columnist Jon who pointed the way to this site today. Took me about an hour but I finally figured it out---whew! Brain got somewhat of a much needed workout.

I passed mensa's entrence exam in 1966. I do not easily think outside the box. The caveat "the smarter you are, the harder it is to solve" pointed me in the right direction. Once I got the answer, it did seem trivial. Didn't seem so trivial the previous 45 minutes.

I was ready to kill the local newspaper columnist who talked about this website in the paper this morning...but then I figured it out so I guess he can live after all
