Wow, amazing riddle! Really enjoyed it, got it after reading the instructions more carefully though

hay all! wow i am very happy to have become a potentate! I think its not so important how long you take overall, as long as within that time you keep on coming up with reasonable alternative ideas; the answer could just have easily been a different reasonable method instead. but the key really was in the 0,2,4 (i.e. the equation was split). when i began following logic from that starting point i got the answer!! yay!! ;) love from London UK

Wow. Awesome game! I spent so long thinking the wrong way, it was only when I got desperate that I stumbled on the formula!

45 minutes of agony, but then the sweet taste of victory. What sucks is that my mother came in the room and got it in 30 seconds.

me and my room mate figured it out in about an hours time it is so simple you just overlook it most of the time

I became a potentate over 30 years ago. I was surfing through something rose related and tripped a memory of Petals Around the Rose. I found this after Googling it. I'm pretty sure the potentate who presented it to me found it in Martin Gardener's collumn in Scientific American.
