Boat Name: Sea Dragon, Dive Victoria, Portsea
Deckie: Jason Salter

Stopped by at The Scuba Doctor for air fills and headed down to Portsea. Checked in with Dive Victoria and changed. Caught up with Mark Ryan and others while waiting for the boat. Eventually Sea Dragon arrived and Mike Reed and I loaded our gear. The boat then headed over to Queenscliff. We found Mary Malloy, Alan Beckhurst and John Lawler and others waiting there.

Our mission for this dive was to mount the VARS plaque on the bridge of the ex HMAS Canberra. Jason Salter had the plaque organised and ready to go. Mary Malloy was along to take above water photos. Alan Beckhurst had his underwater video setup to film proceedings. Mike Reed, John Lawler and I were going to mount the VARS plaque while Alan captured it all.

Once out at the dive site we waited for the other divers to gear up and go in before we entered the water. Mike was assigned to bring down the plaque.

The visibitity was quite 'atmospheric' but Mike went straight to the landing on the port side of the bridge. We got the plaque inside the bridge area and gathered around the pedestal to start installation.

I held the nuts and washers while John and Mike guided the plaque into position. Then they set about bolting it into position.

I checked a few of the nuts for tightness and then we did our best to damage the threads.

We posed for some video shots before exiting the bridge area.

John headed back to the surface. Mike, Alan and myself made our way down to check out the condition of the mural. Mike and I lost Alan at the mural, so we headed outside and started our ascent.

Back onboard Sea Dragon, we chatted away until it was time for the second dive.
