| The HMS Hermes (95), is a British aircraft carrier sunk during World War II, lies approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles) off the coast of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. This location is about 5 nautical miles northeast of the Batticaloa lighthouse. The wreck of the ship was discovered in the Bay of Bengal some sixty years after she was sunk. The HMS Hermes (95) lies with its bow to the south with the general axis of the dive site approximately north-south. HMS Hermes had an overall length of 182.9 m (600 feet), a beam of 21.4 m (70 feet 3 inches), and a draught of 7.1 m (23 feet 3 inches) at deep load. She displaced 11,020 t (10,850 long tons) at standard load. The ship's flight deck was 173.7 m) (570 feet) long and her lifts' dimensions were 11.0 by 11.2 m (36 by 36.6 feet). Her hangar was 121.9 m (400 feet) long, 15.2 m (50 feet) wide and 4.9 m (16 feet) high.
