Finally! After seeing this at work months and months ago, giving up and now taking another look at it tonight I have it. Read the Bill Gates article, some of the comments here and took on board that it has a visual basis. Went to another site (http://www.freeworldgroup.com/games/roses/) featuring this game and the different dice helped me see the solution.

argghhh!!! at first i thought the colors had something to do with it, and then i wrote the patterns down and thought maybe having pairs or triples were a factor.. frustrated confused , i looked at another site until i came across one which had no frills and colors and used quite a different set of terminology for the roll, and that's when i got it.. sheesh!!! #@*%! talk about always thinking in complicated ways... roll eyes (sarcastic)

They say the smarter you are, the longer it'll take you to get it. Well either i'm so dumb or I just haven't gotten adulthood to get the better of me yet. Four minutes, tops.

That is evil #@*%!
Drove me mad for an hour, during which time I did little work.
I think we need a 10th circle of hell for the person who came up with that smile

Hey, it's so simple...yet it took me a few hours to figure it out... sometimes...we tend to be too engrossed with the bigger things and nelgect the smaller yet simpler things in life....

"We tend to complicate simple things".

This is a perfect example convey in this puzzle. I used-up 3 pieces of paper, jotting down the patterns when in fact the solution is in the title itself. big grin
