Took me about 50 rolls of the dice. But actually I found an algorithm, didn't use the info about the name of the game (now, two weeks later, I know the non-algorithmic way to solve the problem).

Nice little puzzle. Got the first roll wrong, though about it a few seconds, then had it nailed. I can see how it drives people a bit crazy if they're too formula oriented.
