It took me 3 seconds to solve the puzzle. And I did it by accident.
The first set of dice presented to me where 2-4-4-4-2. I accidentally pressed the CHECK button even thou I have not entered any answer yet. To my surprise, the check resulted to CORRECT! THERE ARE 0 PETALS AROUND THE ROSE.
It took me another two seconds to analyze the relationship between the ZERO petal and the 2-4-4-4-2 set.
I had correct answers after that.
Nyahaha.

It took me awhile---We worked on this as a group and some figured it out quickly. Amazingly, noone divulged the answer. I thought I had discovered a pattern that suggested you eliminate the even numbers, then add the remaining odd numbers and multiply by 2. It worked 75% of the time. I left the meeting and thought about it the next morning (right now). I looked at the dice from a board game and and finally understood the answer. I was working far too hard. Great teaser!!!
