My math teacher showed our class this the other day... I couldn't figure it out at school but I just tried this online version and it took me about half an hour to figure it out.

Honestly? I spent about 10 mins on this.
I rolled it again and again and again, and compiled screen captures of all the results that had 2 petals side by side to examine.
And then I tried pattern spotting and wierd mathematical formulas. add the first dice, minus the second dice, add the third dice, multiply by fourth dice, divide by 5th dice retarded nonsense
and then I got sidetracked and read the Bill Gates story. The punchline was hilarious and I laughed so much I needed to pee. And in the toilet, I wondered why replacing "petals" with another word could have made all the difference. And I wondered why it was always a even number or zero
and then eureka! it struck me!
and when I returned to the computer, with bated breath, I got it right once, twice, thrice, and again and again and I just kept on getting them right and I was over the moon!
ah haaaa! I know now. I know now! I know now!

i worked on it for like 3 hrs one day. I stopped thinking about it for about a week, and the answer just hit me. After trying to not over think it.
