A great game/puzzle! It took a few (7) attempts to figure it out but I got there in the end and I couldn't believe how simple it was.

An interesting exercise. I was able to solve it just by reading the Bill Gates story (which was good at not revealing the secret, by the way).
Definitely a test for creative types, and a bane for those that can't defocus. Bill's solution method, however, shows how brute force and a Forrest Gump-like persistance can compensate.
