| Purchased secondhand via DiveOz for use as a stage cylinder. Purchased new from The Scuba Doctor to use as my first stage cylinder. Catalina S80 Aluminium Cylinder - 11.1L (80 cuft) - 207 bar - Din/K Valve. The Catalina S80 (11.1 litre, 80 cubic foot), 207 bar, Aluminium Cylinder with DIN/K Valve is made from high-grade aluminium and constructed especially to meet Australian safety standards. Negatively buoyant when empty. The 80 cubic foot aluminium cylinder has been the staple cylinder in the diving industry for many years. This cylinder is used by more divers, dive operators and retail dive stores than any other type of cylinder available. The standard valve supplied with this cylinder is one of the highest flow cylinder valves available today and is also a convertible valve. Whether you dive Yoke or DIN regulators this valve will work for both. Valve has an easily removed 200 bar DIN insert to convert the valve for use with DIN regulators. Valve has a heavy-duty design with a smooth operating mechanism and multi-ported burst disc plug for added safety. Aluminium cylinders unlike steel cylinders don't rust, they oxidise. The oxidisation of aluminium forms a protective coat that hinders the continuation of corrosion making aluminium cylinders less likely to be condemned due to excessive corrosion. Because of it's highly regarded buoyancy characteristics, the Catalina S80 aluminium cylinder is a popular choice as stage/pony tank(s) by technical divers going really deep, or on very long dives. For longer, deeper dives they often use these cylinders to carry a Nitrox mix (e.g. EAN50, 50% oxygen) to accelerate their decompression on accent. The Catalina S80 is a great cylinder for doing this. |
