| The Whale Bombie (aka Whale Bommie) dive site is located at Gordon's Mooring, Milln Reef, Outer Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Queensland, The Whale Bombie is a large coral pinnacle separate from the reef, rising from a depth of 26m breaking at the surface. Splendid Gorgonian Fans, Giant Clams and Bump Headed Parrot fish. A dive for beginner to intermediate level. The Whale is a large isolated bommie with abundant marine life. Sleeping white tipped reef sharks and bumphead parrotfish are common on morning dives and sleeping turtles on night dives. An excellent wall dive site offering good depth. On a low tide, waves break at the top of the 'bommie' creating a plume of water similar to a whale's, hence the site's name. Entry/Exit: Boat. Location coordinates from ???. Accuracy unknown. |
