| Flinders Pier is an L-shaped pier approximately 150 metres (490 feet) long. Can be entered from the beach or from the low landing. Tidal movement is about 1.5 metres so best dived at high tide. A small wreck lies at the end of the pier on the right. This pier must be the Weedy Seadragon capital of Australia. Generally lots of life to be seen. Quite often large rays as well. Flinders pier is one of the staple dive sites of the Mornington Peninsula. It is accessible is all but strong easterly winds and is best dived at slackwater or on an incoming Westernport tide. The spot is not often affected by current but the vis is usually beter in these conditions. The pier is a bit over a hundred metres long an a popular fishing spot so watch out for the fishing line and squid jigs! Expect to see heaps of life here including weedy sea dragons, lots of fish, sea-hares, shrimp, squipd, octopus and even crayfish in the wreck at the end of the pier! There are extensive seagrass beds in the area as well as all the usual encrusting invertebrates, soft corals, bryzoans, ascidians and sponges. This is a particularly good night dive as all the life comes out of the seagrass to play. This is a great dive spot for all levels, novice to experienced and can be combined on a calm day with a poke around at Mushroom reef or the Flinders blowhole, a 5minute car-ride away. A word of warning though: the carparkat the pier is busy and notorious for theft from cars, so lock up those valuables or leave them with a friend. Location GPS coordinates from Google Earth.
