For me the two clues that clicked were on another website:
1. The name of the game is "Petals around the rose"
2. The smarter you are, the longer it takes you to solve it.

Now I don't know whether to feel good that I got it the solution in seven tries.

I was linked to this via a Quasar (Q-zar to you Americans) forum...spent about 6 hours playing it well into the night, woke up the next morning with a sore head, and in my half-asleep state pounced upon the solution almost instantly.

Not quite sure why but I seem to have it. Apparantly the clue is in the name but this seems smoke and mirrors to me or maybe I'm just dumb.

After several hair-pulling trials, I finally figured it out.
