After much advanced calculus in various number bases, and long records of results in spreadsheets for complex statistical analysis, the answer hit me like a bullet from nowhere!

Spent 3 minutes playing it, started formulating theories and formulas but instead read the story about Bill Gates, noticed that the secretary got it almost immediately... so I just relaxed, leaned back and - bingo.

At first I was confused, being a math teacher I tried all types of formulas. Then I read the problem again. Petals around the rose! You don't have to be smart, just have common sense!
