Got it on 2nd try!! Since the name of the game is important, it reminded me of "black magic" so I came up with a reasonable strategy before rolling the dice. It was wrong. but someone stressed the word around so I rethought a similar strategy and figured out the game in the 2nd try!!

I saw this at a conference, watched for a while, but did not get focused on this.
Came home, tried the game for 9 rounds ... went to sleep on it. Today, looking at it, I got it!

 The clue "The name is important" was the key. I showed it to my husband and he got it right away too. Yay us! Glad to join the fraternity. We both teach high school and any time we get to be mean to our students is a good day.
