The fact that some of the dice are red is misleading...
I was on the right track, then it clicked fully

It feels good to consider myself a 'Potentate of the Rose'. Took me a few hours, but once I realized the importance of the name, I got it right away.

Like most problems, the answer jumps out if you look at it from the right direction and follow the KISS rule..

Easy.
Well, it's easy if you're creative enough to look beyond the conventional workings of a dice, as signifying a number, and the assumption that the puzzle involves mathematical algorithms.
Questioning the "why" of everything - such as the name of the game - comes in handy sometimes.

A few wasted hours and a couple buck spent on some dice and I finally figured it out.
