I won't reiterate the argument of whether or not the amount of time spend arriving at the answer has a direct association with intelligence; however, I have a MS in Computer Science on which I initially defaulted in trying to solve the puzzle. Like the rest of the 'logically' or 'analytically minded' who posted- this put me in an infinite loop of frustration. After an hour of thinking it was a derivation of the Fibonnaci Sequence ( I remembered from undergrad that FS governs the amount of leaves on a tree or something of natural growth), I researched roses and thier stages of growth. Although I learned how to keep Aphids off of new blooms, this too got me no where. Then I came back to ...."how we define the problem"....so, how do we define the rose? wink

::Sigh:: Yeah, I finally got this about 20 mind-numbing, frustrating minutes after my girlfriend showed it to me. Weeeee.... That was fun!

Took about an hour of thinking about it after my wife showed me, then 15 minutes to write a program to do it and then a few minutes to reduce it to a single line equation.

I think the issue isn't that 'smarter' poeple take longer, but that more 'analytical' people take longer. I spent the most of the first hour spinning thorugh algorithms, but then thought about the name and went looking for flowers! Once I stopped thinking too much, the answer popped right up.

It took me about two and a half hours (and scores of rolls) to figure out the mathematical solution, then another few dozen rolls to figure out the "easy" way.
