I admit, I cheated a little and read Gates's story...after seeing the program he wrote, and particularly the 'no wonder he had trouble', it was a cinch

Yet another conquest for the gremlin

FIsrt I thought it was something mathematical, then I thought for a minute and found it.

Got it in less than 30 mins.

My 15-year-old sister sent this to me. She solved it in 7 rolls, so thank goodness I got it in 5 (score one for me...) It's simple and intuitive, so I'd liken it to Apple's style much more so than Microsoft's and can see why Bill Gates took so long to get it. From the insightful account though, you've really gotta admire his pertinacity and the remarkable payoff system wired into his brain. I wouldn't be surprised if he really does end up conquering the world ;)

Whew! I was close once but then went way off, eventually got back there again.

A friend gave me the puzzle initially written down as a series of 5 random numbers between 1 and 6. Needless to say, I didn't solve it that way at all. Took me about 15 minutes after I clicked the URL to this site and saw the game is supposed to be played with dice. Doh!!!
