It took me quite a while, because I was going about it completely the wrong way. However, I read somewhere that the smarter you are, the longer it takes you to figure out.

I was doing 2-3 things at a time. Read the start, and then again read the imp msg 'Petals Around the Rose'. I had it figured out in 2-3 min. Then, I read Bill Gates msg 'Pedal Around the Rose' which comes at the end. so it was of no use. 
The games a good brain teaser to while away a few min.

32 sketches, some light migraine and about 50 minutes later, I decided it was time for a different approach.
I read the story about Bill Gates and the comments, and thought it doesn't take a mathematician to solve this puzzle.
After that I came up with the solution in a few minutes.

Figured it out in 20 seconds after looking at the title of the game for a second time 
Nice game though, and fun to play with those who don't get it
