History
1973 Holden
HQ Monaro GTS 4-door advert.
This extremely original and genuine 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS, 253 V8,
4-door sedan has been in the family since near new.
It started its life as a Holden executive's car at
the Elizabeth factory in South Australia for the nine months before
my father purchased it in March 1974. Then it spent most of its life
as my mother's shopping car in Whyalla, SA and Sydney, NSW.
It was passed down to me and registered in Victoria in April 1995.
For most of the time it has been my second car and thus rarely used.
This car is so original that it has still got a Dunlop
Aquajet ER70H14 red wall tyre as the spare! However,
some changes from totally original have been made.
The windscreen was replaced
to pass roadworthy for registration in Victoria.
The car has been converted to dual fuel, i.e. LPG and petrol.
At the time of the LPG conversion the points distributor was replaced
with an electronic one, plus a Bosch Coil was added, both to improve
the spark quality and reliability for running on LPG.
The original radio stopped working and was replaced with a
Clarion DB336MP AM/FM CD/MP3 player. Rear shelf and front quarter
panel speakers were also fitted. However, I still have the original
13 transistor push button radio, plus a spare one, should you wish
to switch back.
The bodywork is showing a few signs of nearly 40 years
of shopping car park use. The original metalic green paint work, complete
with Monaro GTS bonnet and bootlid white paint-outs, is a bit run down.
Mechanically, this car is as good as new! Wherever I go
to get it serviced the mechanics comment on how sound and tight the car
is mechanically, and mention that most HQs they see are so tired and sloppy.
