I got it after about 40 rolls, focusing just on the numerical aspect instead of considering the name. I figured out the name thing afterwards, and I'm thinking about not giving that clue right away when I share the game with friends and family. Only if they get frustrated will I give them the name of the game.

Sadly, it has taken me over two years to figure out the answer.

Not that I spent all my time working on it. I would look at it on and off every few weeks...in between classes, while I was eating lunch, etc. I have dozens of sheets full of the different formulas I came up with (and I came up with them all) only to discover it this morning at 6 AM after going without sleep all night.

It quickly came to me when the question popped into my mind "why is it there has to be dice involved and not just random numbers?"

Drove me nuts as I consider myself an intelligent guy, but someone who always misses the obvious. My friends who figured it out in a few minutes will probably continue to snicker at me while I celebrate, but the satisfaction of finally solving this riddle makes it worth it.

I figured it out before the first roll of the dice.
But it probably took me 2 minutes to read the instructions 3x.
And I actually pondered on the picture of the rose on the website, and tried counting the petals around it.
The name of the game was a real spoiler.

I spent quite a while trying to work it out and gave up. Came back to it some weeks later and got it right straight away. Smile

but ... if "the answer ends the fun", I wouldn't have had much fun out of it. It was something to count in rolls, not tens of 'em, in minutes, not hours.
Maybe that my mind strays from time to time, and that time it did: "lateral thinking" as a friend called it.

Bit ... the "solution" made me smile and did NOT take out the fun.
On the contrary: now I can try to play it with others. The fun of the game then is more in "keeping the secret", only by answering correctly (or more fun still: not answering the right number, but making the statement that "this time 8 is NOT right" or things like that.

The only problem is that some people don't play it that way, and "only" want "the solution". Which is NOT the game indeed.

I read about the Polar Bears and Fish ... the calculations are harder, most of our friends won't ever "get" those.

Well, it's a nice game, and we should try it on a couple of kids as well.

If the fun was over after finding the "answer", why would anyone still sign up here ?

one read of bill gates, two tries myself, a quick look back at the bill gates answers and then a couple of tries to test my theory was correct, about 5 mins

unlike you guys, it took me well over a year:
i tried it for like 2 hours before giving it up then tried it over and over like a month or two in between each try, until like 6 weeks ago when i finally got it.
